beto shwafaty (Brazil)

Beto Shwafaty is a Brazilian artist based in São Paulo and Frankfurt. He is interested in the convergence of art, media, design and architecture and their effects on the public sphere. His practice includes documentary, printed material, installations, public actions and interventions. He holds a MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies, obtained at NABA (Milan) in 2009, and attended the Städelschule Frankfurt/Main as a guest student at Simon Starling's class in 2010/2011.

His latest exhibitions are: 4th International Architecture Biennial Rotterdam: Urbaninform section (2009); 3rd Utrecht Manifest (2009); Shadowed by the Future (São Paulo, 2010). He has been part of the collective projects Elephant Collective (São Paulo, 2004/2007) and GRID (Milan, 2008/2009). Some of his curatorial and editorial collaborations are: Silent City's Art as Activism publication (London, 2011); Answer Machine Project (at 29th São Paulo Biennial – Capacete Residencies, 2010); No Order Magazine, NABA (Milan, 2009/2010); Utopia for Sale (Berlin, 2009); Public Turbulence (Isola Art Center, org. Bert Theis, Milan, 2009); Milanopoli (org. Jens Hoffmann, NABA, Milan, 2008).
