béatrice balcou (France)
Béatrice Balcou, born in 1976 in France, works and lives in Brussels. Her work combines photography, video and animated film in a creative process related to performance art and the study of gesture. In 2005, she was a resident at the theatre Le Vivat at Armentières (France). Since that year she has been developing her research in the field of living arts. In 2007, she participated in the project Ex.e.r.ce at the National Choreographic Center of Montpellier, directed by Mathilde Monnier and Xavier Le Roy. Since then, she has been active as a performer in various contemporary dance projects. Since 2008, she has been working on a practical and theoretical thesis at the University of Rennes (France) entitled The question of reality in contemporary dance. She is also part of the artists collective 'r-Ohm' which reflects on visual arts, new media, biology, food and economics.
Her recent work aims at making aware of those
gestures that otherwise go unnoticed. Separating verbal language from
body language, gestures become more visible.
